What is World Water Day?
World Water is celebrated on March 22 every year and addresses the water crisis that leaves so many people behind.

Marginalized groups – women, children, refugees, indigenous peoples, disabled people and many others – are often overlooked, and sometimes face discrimination, as they try to access and manage the safe water they need.

The UN's Sustainable Development Goals, launched in 2015, include a target to ensure everyone has access to safe water by 2030, making water a key issue in the fight to eradicate extreme poverty.  In 1993, the UN General Assembly designated March 22nd as World Water Day.  It is now a globally recognized event.

World Polio Day
Oct 24, 2019
World Polio Day is celebrated on October 24th. World Polio Day was established by Rotary International to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk, who led the first team to develop a vaccine against poliomyelitis. Use of this inactivated poliovirus vaccine and subsequent widespread use of the oral poliovirus vaccine, developed by Albert Sabin, led to the establishment of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

Dictionary Work Session
Nov 11, 2019 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
Thanks to Jim Mui for his willingness to host our Dictionary work session to put our labels in about 1,000 dictionaries destined for third grade students in the five schools we serve with this project.  During December we will be distributing these dictionaries as Lee Barnard arranges the distribution dates.

Jim's office is easy to find at 5550 Glades Road, Suite 500: Fifth Floor of Town Center Executive Suites located behind Cheesecake Factory. All club members are encouraged to arrive about 6 pm Monday November 11, additional volunteers also welcome.  Lee will bring the dictionaries and labels; with a dozen or so volunteers, we should complete this task in about an hour.  For those interested, food and fellowship may follow.
