During our weekly meeting Monday, 11/5/2018, we honored Paige Fries, our Florida Atlantic University High School Rotary Scholar of the Month for November 2018.  Club Youth Services Chair Mathieu Daquin  reviewed how the Rotary Scholar of the Month is selected by the FAU HS staff in recognition of character, ethics, morality, community service, and academic achievement.  Then he reviewed Paige's accomplishments and education plan.

Paige expects to graduate FAU HS in spring of 2019, and complete her BA degree in English in the spring of 2020.  She has self published two novels and won awards for Short Story and Poetry.  Last year she was selected most valuable player for FAU HS Girls Varsity Soccer.
Participating in the Student Athletic Leadership Team (SALT), Paige has had an opportunity to organize projects and events for the high school that allow student athletes to offer services to the community, such as assisting in a soup kitchen or raising funds through 5k runs. She has also served in the community coaching younger kids playing soccer.
Paige's passion is writing, starting when she was about 8 years old.  One of the projects she earned Scholastic Arts and Writing recognition for was a short story written as a memoir of her future self, attempting to imagine her progression a few years into her future.  When asked about her self publishing experience, she revealed that her editor and encouragement came from her dad Keith.  This special parenting is obviously a great contributor to success already shown in Paige's accomplishments.
Paige was also accompanied by her brother Kyle and mom Jennifer.
Following her presentations and questions, club President Ana London and Youth Services Chair Mathieu Daquin presented the certificate honoring Paige as our FAU HS Rotary Scholar for November 2018.
