10-21-2019 Rotary In Action Day
During our meeting October 21, 2019 we reviewed our club structure, activities, projects, and some of the reasons our members chose to get involved in Rotary Boca Raton Sunset.  Our Membership Chair Fred Licata has encouraged our members to invite guests for this meeting to provide an introduction to our club.  He also reminded our members to let him know how many guests to expect so we have proper meal preparation.  Be sure to have all guests sign our registration at the door.
After our meeting began with the pledge and affirmation, Sgt at Arms Steve Perman introduced our guests: Denise Falabella guest of Steve Laine, Christine White guest of Fred Licata, Bill Weitz guest of Steve Laine, Diana Glozman guest of Melissa Bhatnagar, and Allison Heeg guest of Steve Perman.
Past President Joe Mirrione orchestrated an excellent and enthusiastic series of club member stories about their experiences in Rotary and some of the characteristics that brought them into our club.  The stories began with our Sgt at Arms Hon Dr Steve Perman telling us about the experience together with our other charter member Past District 6930 Governor Steve Laine getting the club started with a series of name changes and meeting locations.  He told us about some of the projects and activities of the past that have kept him excited and active in the club with perfect attendance throughout the years.
Then he returned the mic to President Elect Fred Licata to induct our newest member Jim Mui, Financial Advisor.  As Jim's sponsor, Dan Singh introduced him and reviewed his background for us.  Starting his career on Wall Street, Jim managed assets for corporate and private portfolios as a Financial Planner/Advisor for more than 35 years. he has also taught adult education at Barry University for CFP programs.  Welcome Jim Mui!
Following the induction, Secretary Jerry Leitherer reviewed the club structure and several of the projects our club has in process and planning for the fiscal year.  This led into Past President Lee Barnard's review of the Dictionary Distribution and Essay Contest project that has kept him involved and excited over the past years.  He has enjoyed visiting the five schools we serve and personally giving each 3rd grader a very own dictionary writing their names in the front and watching the excited grins.
Following Lee, we heard about our special year long FAU HS Scholar project that recognizes scholars selected by the FAU HS staff using the criteria we provide.  Each month from September through April we honor a student in recognition of character, ethics, morality, community service, and academic achievement.  In May we culminate the project with a gala where we give each student a $500 award and remind the student that the club sponsor is available as a mentor as the move along in their education and career.
President Elect Fred then mentioned how interested people get proposed for membership and sponsored as well as mentored when they join our club.  He introduced PDG Steve Laine to tell us about Rotary International and how that provides a network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders and problem solvers around the globe.  Steve passed the mic to Immediate Past President Ana Londono to tell us about the Rotary Foundation and then proceeded to welcome and thank Lupe Eyde into the Paul Harris Fellowship, being recognized for the contribution of $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation.  IPP Ana continued to describe some of the benefits and advantages of donating to the Rotary Foundation and how funds come back into the community through District Grants.
Then Past President Joe Mirrione wrapped up the stories with some of his own experiences over the years with Rotary making sure our guests had an opportunity to ask questions and increase their engagement with our club.  Members who brought guests were encouraged to follow up with additional information and appropriate initiating of membership proposal for those who are interested.
President Elect Fred completed the club meeting with a few announcements about upcoming events and reminding all about the Board meeting that followed club meeting.
