2019-20 FAU HS December Scholar Aaron Zygala
During our weekly meeting Monday, 12/2/2019, we honored Aaron Zygala, our Florida Atlantic University High School 2019-20 Rotary Scholar for December.  The FAU HS Rotary Scholar of the Month is selected by the FAU HS staff in recognition of character, ethics, morality, community service, and academic achievement.
Aaron told us a little about his dual enrollment studies with FAU HS and FAU as well as his experience teaching math for Mathnasium and his many hours of community service activities.  He told us that he and his parents learned about the FAU HS program while he was participating in a championship soccer game during his eight grade year.  With interest sparked he applied and feels especially honored to have been selected for the program.
He mentioned the effort required to maintain a 4.0 scholastic position while participating in the myriad of opportunities offered by the FAU HS program, such as the Science Olympiad competition.  The Science Olympiad offered him not merely the competition, but also the special experience of working with a team and competing with some of the top science students at the state level.
The challenging dual enrollment studies helped him discover his passion for math, which is the basis for his current pursuit of a bachelor degree in computer science.  This passion lead him to become a math teacher as a summer job with Mathnasium.  He mentioned the fulfillment provided when he was able to convey basic principals and concepts of general mathematics to younger students.  Further opportunities were provided when tutoring his peers in the Math Ambassadors program at FAU.
Aaron has accumulated more a hundred hours of community service through peer tutoring both math and World History, as well as distributing meals with his dad through their church programs.  In addition to his volunteer activities, continuing with his industrious nature he works part time at Habit Burger Grill and had to beg a peer to cover his shift so he could attend our meeting and receive our club recognition this evening.
Aaron was accompanied by his parents, Giovanne Correa, IT and Business Consultant, and Yuri Zygala, Director of Information Security, whom he thanked for encouraging him in his studies and career pursuit.  Additionally, FAU HS Assistant Principal Christine Rick joined President Elect Fred Licata and FAU HS Rotary Scholar Chair Sam Khazem in presenting the certificate of honor.  Congratulations Aaron!
