Hannah Storrs, MUN Delegate 2020
During our weekly meeting Monday February 24, 2019, Hannah Storrs our club sponsored FAU HS 2020 Model UN Delegate briefly reported on her experience attending the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference (ILMUNC) on January 30 to February 3, 2020.  This conference was being held in the historic city of Philadelphia , PA.  Hannah thanked us for our support of the Model UN program and especially for her opportunity to attend the event, which also gave her opportunity to see the liberty bell and museums.
During the MUN event in Philadelphia, she participated in the World Bank Economic and Social Council discussing poverty and energy solutions in Southeast Asia.  Although her team didn't win the competition event, she told us she learned a lot about working together to solve problems in foreign locations.  She told us she not only made some new friends in other schools but she can bring back to her classmates and MUN club members many things she learned and strategies that can be used for future events.  Hannah is currently the President of the FAU HS MUN Chapter so she already sharing her experiences.
We're proud to have sponsored Hannah's participation in the 2020 ILMUNC event.  She is currently in the 11th grade at FAU HS with a double major in Political Science and English; and she expects to pursue a career in Political Journalism.    In addition to her interest in MUN, she is an Ambassador in Girl Scouts and Concertmaster in Youth Orchestra.
2/24/2020 March 2020 Featured Rotarian Dr Steve Perman
Our Featured Rotarian for March is our one of our founding members Dr. Steve Perman. Most of you already know Steve as our happy, enthusiastic, and entertaining Sargent at Arms who not only helps start our meetings with the flag pledge, and our oath affirming our Rotarian commitment to service, but you may not realize he is the author of that pledge.  Doc Steve is also a past President of our club and provides the best introductory fireside chat for new members.
When not serving our Rotary club, Dr. Steve Perman is serving our community as a respected holistic chiropractor, nutritionist, acupuncturist, teacher and motivational speaker. His credentials include two full Board Certifications: Chiropractic Sports Medicine (DACBSP) and Clinical Nutrition (DACBN). His acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine certification was through the University of Miami School of Medicine. He attended Emory University in Atlanta and graduated from New York Chiropractic College in 1979 where he also served as a clinical instructor from 1981-83. In 2005, he was named the statewide “Chiropractor of the Year” by the Florida Chiropractic Association. He was appointed to the National Examining Board to evaluate and assess physicians seeking their board certification in clinical nutrition.  He also served in the Florida Stare House of Representatives 2010-2012.
During our meeting February 24, 2020 Steve spoke briefly about his family: wife for 36 years Irene; and two adult children; son, a professional musician, and daughter, a professional sign language interpreter.  Steve also highlighted many aspects of his chiropractic practice telling us about the special value his holistic approach to health care provvides for his patients.  To help us better understand this value, he provided a brief explanation of health as defined by World Health Organization: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
When evaluating your state of health, Doc Steve points out that the most important system is the brain and nervous system, which is providing control for all parts of the body.  He points out that chiropractic medicine is not just about the bones, or skeletal system, it is about how the nervous system is interacting with all parts of the body. In particular, he described how a subluxation, that is a slight misalignment of the vertebrae, is regarded in chiropractic theory as the cause of many health problems.  Using a diagram, Steve showed how a subluxation interferes with the nervous system communication.  He continued with explanations of several different methods of treatments that he is able to provide for dealing with not merely issues such as subluxation, but many other issues relating to health of one's body, including:
   •Chiropractic Adjustments
   •Acupuncture / Traditional Chinese Medicine
   •Nutritional Counseling
   •Supplements, Herbal Medicine & CBD
   •Massage Therapy
   •Physical Therapy
   •Sports Medicine/Rehabilitation
   •Computer Assisted Disc Decompression
Dr Steve Perman provides a great value to our community through his practice: Mission Bay Chiropractic Center
