5-11-2020 Meeting Speaker Gabrielle Bush
Gabrielle Bush was selected FAU HS Rotary Scholar of the Year during the first year of our FAU HS Rotary Scholar project. She has a Master's in Public Administration, is currently a St Thomas University Law Student, and dreams of becoming Secretary of Health.  Gabrielle will speak to our club during a zoom meeting May 11, 2020 at 6pm. We expect she will tell us about the G.B.3 Literati project she and her sisters have begun in their community.

G.B.3 Literati, a family literacy team, seeks to instill hope in students by helping them to increase math proficiency and to raise their math grades by at least one letter grade within a tutorial period.  This team of sisters, famous for earning their Masters degrees prior to the age of 20, also seek to help students who have not acquired the adequate math skills for HS graduation to obtain their diploma.

More information about the tutoring program at https://www.gb3tutoring.org/the-program.  Rotary members wishing to join our zoom meeting may contact the club, club secretary, or bulletin editor for zoom meeting information.

The City of Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer has issued a “Stay Home, Stay Safe” emergency order for everyone living within City limits beginning Saturday, March 28, 2020 at 12:01 AM. People should remain in their homes or on their own property. Individuals may leave their places of residence only for essential activities. Do your part. Slow the spread. Stay safe and stay home.  Beginning Wednesday April 29, some relaxation of this policy is occurring, refer to links below for current information.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends wearing non-medical masks and face coverings when out in public as an additional effort to slow the spread of the corona virus. According to their website, the CDC is advising the use of simple cloth face coverings to help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others.  Cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure.

The cloth face coverings recommended are NOT surgical masks or N-95 respirators.  Those are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders, as recommended by current CDC guidance.

The Palm Beach County Administrator has issued an emergency order as follows:

"All persons working in, patronizing, or otherwise physically present in grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacies, construction sites, public transit vehicles, vehicles for hire, and locations where social distancing measures are not possible should wear facial coverings as defined by the CDC.

All other persons physically present in any public place in Palm Beach County are strongly urged to wear facial coverings as defined by the CDC."

Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer has ordered:

"Every person working, living, visiting, or doing business in the City of Boca Raton is encouraged to wear a cloth facial covering consistent with the current CDC guidelines while in any public place.

All people should avoid the utilization of surgical masks or N95 rated masks as those are critical supplies for health care workers, police, fire, emergency management, or other persons engaged in life and safety activities."

Rotary District 6930 has cancelled events, such as RLI, until further notice.  Additionally we regret to announce that the Rotary International Convention, scheduled for 6-10 June 2020 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, has been canceled due to the ongoing threat of COVID-19.
