1-28-2019 Stem Cell Therapy - Michelle Parlo
Michelle Parlo provided our program for January 28, 2019 and told us more about stem cell treatments.  When US Stem Cell Clinic opened its facility in 2015 in Weston, Michelle became its Clinic Director, treating patients with their own stem cells for various indications and overseeing the day-to-day and long-term operations.  She learned about stem cell treatment from the Chief Scientific Officer of US Stem Cell Clinic; stem cell treatment provides the  regenerative healing power of using the patient’s own stem cells, without the side effects of drugs or surgery.
Michelle provided an overview of regenerative healing describing the process as: "… replacing, engineering or regenerating human cells, tissues or organs to restore or establish normal function by stimulating the body's own repair mechanisms to heal previously irreparable tissues or organs."  The concept begins with a mature (adult) mesenchymal stem cells that can differentiate into a variety of cell types, including osteoblasts (bone cells), chondrocytes (cartilage cells), myocytes (muscle cells) and adipocytes (fat cells which give rise to marrow adipose tissue).
The stem cells are extracted from fat tissue and with minimal manipulation to reduce risk of inflammation they are transplanted to the area in need of repair and healing.  In most cases the healing begins in a few days demonstrating relief with noticeable improvement in weeks, but continues healing naturally over a period of years.
MIchelle completed her presentation by mentioning a variety of additional therapies and services provided by the US Stem Cell Clinic in several locations throughout Florida including Weston, West Palm Beach and The Villages.  Our club President Ana Londono thanked Michelle Parlo for her presentation and presented her with a token of our appreciation.
Michelle completed the Physician Assistant Program at, Miami-Dade College, and holds a B.S. in business administration/marketing from Miami University. She is Board Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, is Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certified, is a member of Florida Academy of Physician Assistant and is licensed to practice in Florida.
