Boca Raton Mayor Proclamation

WHEREAS, the United Nations and Rotary International both share similar visions for a more peaceful world and have worked together since 1945 with the aim of maintaining peace after World War II; and

WHEREAS, each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on the 21st of September. Established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.
WHEREAS, the United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development goals because they understood that it would not be possible to build a peaceful world if steps were not taken to achieve economic and social development for all people everywhere, and to ensure that their rights are protected. The goals cover a broad range of issues including poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender equality, water sanitation, energy, environment and social justice; and
WHEREAS, the City of Boca Raton observes the International Day of Peace through the Boca Raton Sunset Rotary Club, the Boca Raton Central Rotary Club, Downtown Boca Raton Rotary Club, the Rotary Club of Boca Raton, the Rotary Club of Boca Raton West, and the Boca Raton Sunrise Rotary Club;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Scott Singer, Mayor of the City of Boca Raton, Florida, do hereby proclaim Saturday, September 21, 2019 as
                               INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE
in Boca Raton and encourage all residents and Rotarians to support the goals and ideals of the United Nation’s International Day of Peace
