Past District 6930 Governor Steve Laine led our club in a plan to celebrate the International Day of Peace with Florida Atlantic University Saturday afternoon September 21, 2019.  The FAU celebration was organized and produced by Professor Douglas McGetchin, Interim Executive Director, FAU Peace Justice and Human Rights (PJHR) Initiative, his staff and supporting services.
In preparation for Peace Day, Mayor Scott Singer stopped in to provide our club a special proclamation on behalf of the City of Boca Raton.  The special proclamation recognized all of the six Rotary Clubs in Boca Raton for their contribution as leaders locally and globally in working towards peace throughout the world.  Click here and scroll down to see content of proclamation.   PDG Steve made sure this proclamation was shared at the FAU event.
The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day") is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.
The Peace Day Event was held on FAU Boca Raton campus and offered two sessions: a morning session  from 10:30 to 11:50 am including video streaming of the 2019 Merida, Mexico Nobel Peace Laureate Summit Plenary Session 6 "The Power of Law vs The Law of Power;" and the evening session from 4:30 - 8 pm including welcoming thoughts from Professor Douglas McGetchin as well as Rotary District 6930 Governor Donna Geiser, Dance portraying Nonviolence, and streaming connection with Merida, Yucatan, Mexico for the Awards and Final Declaration for 2019.  The dance was performed by Rhythms School of Dance (Bharatanatyam School).
